MEC, a collaborative team by Eunkang Koh and Matthew Weidmann, explores the world we created and how these worlds created by two artists interact, intertwine and interchange by collaborating throughout the project.
MEC would like to present “Ourtopia” in this exhibition. “Ourtopia” is a fantastic glimpse into what future humans and society look like and how the human condition evolves and adapts with current times. How the rapid advancement of technology, with the information age, social media, advances in medicine and science transform what it is to be human. There are many varieties of people and characters in the world and we hope to achieve with this project the idea and possibility of a future with a diverse and varied human personality and the celebration of that diversity as opposed to an oppressive cookie cutter homogenous singular hum drum vision of what the one version of all future humans will look like. MEC also explores what the society that these humans live in looks like and create realities for which these characters and personalities navigate. We provide glimpses into this future landscape for which our characters and personalities live and are at home, work, and play in. How the architecture of this future landscape will look like is one aspect that stems from the main focus of capturing of the essence of the human beings and variety of life. A hard look at the human condition.
All the images were from the exhibition " Ourtopia", which took a place at Art Jamsil in Seoul, South Korea from June 1-14, 2023
Animation:
"Birdman Dreams" by Matthew Weidmann, 2023
"Watching" by Eunkang Koh, 2023
